From Stock to REVO Stage 3 – is it worth it? Our VW Golf R MK7.5 QT Demo Car

Let’s not beat around the bush, upgrading from a stock Golf R MK7.5 to a REVO Stage 3 tune is a significant modification that offers substantial performance gains (an additional 200BHP to be more exact), but whether it’s worth it depends on your individual preferences, driving habits, and priorities…
 

…but if you’re asking for our opinion then it’s a resounding YES, YES, and YES again!

REVO Stage 3 tuning typically involves significant modifications to the engine, including an upgraded IS38ETR V2 turbocharger, upgraded high and low-pressure fuel pumps, upgraded intercooler & pipe kit, hi-flow sports cat and cat-back exhaust system, upgraded air intake kit, and of course, the ECU & TCU tune. And those are just wants necessary to access peak power. These modifications result in substantial horsepower and torque increases, highs of 513BHP and 580NM of torque which is supercar territory. The best part, you don’t have supercar fuel consumption, maintenance costs or insurance premiums to pay. If you’re seeking maximum performance for track days, drag racing, or spirited driving, the power gains from a Stage 3 tune are nothing short of exhilarating. 

On that topic, let’s talk cost. Transitioning to a REVO Stage 3 setup is a considerable financial investment. Beyond the cost of the tuning software itself, you’ll need to factor in the price of aftermarket performance parts, installation labour, and potentially additional supporting modifications such as upgraded brakes, suspension components, and drivetrain reinforcements to handle the increased power reliably. Being in the industry, we have been lucky enough to drive some of the most powerful Volkswagen Group vehicles to have been built including R8s, RS6s, TTRSs and many more. We can honestly say we have had the most fun in the REVO Stage 3 Golf R, hands down. 

If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you’re a performance enthusiast and you’re just interested on what we have to say about reaching stage 3 power. Yes, the power is ridiculous, and it does have the capabilities to go to toe to toe with the likes of a Porsche GT3, but the most enjoyable aspect of all is it’s unique, 1 of a kind. There is no other vehicle out on the road that is the same, it’s all about personality and individual taste that’s what sets us apart. And in our opinion, taking a Golf R from stock to stage 3 is a journey that we hope one day you will experience.  

Ultimately, deciding whether transitioning from a stock vehicle to a REVO Stage 3 setup is worth it depends on your individual goals, budget, and willingness to accept that once you’ve made the leap you will not want to step foot outside of that car! However, if you have other priorities and if maintaining factory warranty coverage is one of those, you may find that a less aggressive tuning option is most applicable, or sticking with a stock setup better suits your needs.
